pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Does anyone here have some good advice on getting these bolts out. I have tried heat, pbr, hammer, and cutting these bolts off. My blade broke before even making a scratch so its not cut yet. My next move is getting a torch and cutting the bolts that way. I am going crazy over here.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Was the blade you were using for metal or for wood?

Metal but it was kinda a cheap blade so I might have to get new ones.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Use lots of oil while cutting (motor oil works), along with keeping the blade speed down. I take it you are using a Sazall or such? Get the bi-metal bldes as they will last longer. Will still need several to cut a bolt.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

a few weeks ago when i swapped out my rear ends i had trouble with the panhard bar to axle bolt. i just unbolted it from the body instead and then used a torch and it spun off like butter

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Both my Camaros have been a pain when replacing any of the suspension and the panhard was just has hard as the rest. Ive been able too unthread the nut before but the bolt is frozen so a BFH helped then. Other times they just have too be cut then pounded out with a punch, if ur still using the stock bar. If your replacing with a aftermarket part id just cut it with a torch and get new hardware for the new piece saves alot of time. Beware of the LCA's if you change those too there a nightmare especially if ur bolts are frozen on the axle side. my 90 was frozen so bad that i had too remove the rearend and cut the lca into 3 pieces too remove it from the axle end lol.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Spray PB blaster on it every two hours all day, than get a big breaker bar and someone to help you with a big adjustable wrench, its a bitch, but thats how i got mine off after 2 days of doing that.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

I have the nut off but the bolt is still stuck so I might just cut the panhard rod so I can get the rear end out from underneath the car so things arent so difficult. I was planning on using the stock bar but this is such a pain that I dont want to deal with this again so I will just buy a new one.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Use a huge hammer and beat the crap out of it. You gotta load it up on the PB blaster while doing it. That happened to my body brace thing right above the panhard rod, got it stuck and couldnt get it to move, after wacking away at it for about an hour and cursing alot it finally moved, it helps to put a socket on one end and keep rotating it while hitting it from the other side, grab a friend and go to town on that sucker.

i am having this same problem. what a bitch to get the bolt out. i broke mine off at the nut side. i cant get straight shot on the bolt to beat it out w/ the rotor in the way. i may need to cut the blot head off and beat it out that way.

u might have too remove the rotor i think the bolt might be too long and will hit the rotor if u try too pound it out the other way. Pray too god that it does pound out like i said i couldnt get mine too budge even after cutting off both sides. If i can help it i will never do a 3rd gen rearend again lol... both of mine that ive done putting them back in is a pain with one guy especially when the 10 bolt is laying on ur chest while ur trying too prop it in place with ur leg... lmao!

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

I had the same exact problem you are having. If you got new bolts I just cut the old ones off with an angle grinder. Cut them off at the head so you can at least get some vicegrips on them. That is a last resort really.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

What if you try tightening it until it snaps off? I did that for a lower control arm bolt, then used a punch to hit it out... problem solved.

if its that easy.. mine was horrible it might have been a more then bad situation then most but when i did get mine off i looked at the metal sleeve inside it had rusted so bad in there that the bolt and the sleeve had basically became one.... a punch and i hammer had no chance of getting that out maybe a 8lb sledge... lol

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Well I cut the bolts off on both ends but now I have to get a grinder of some kind to grind enough metal out so the panhard rod will just drop out.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

Well, all that is well and good. I was troubled with something like this a while back on a different car, but after about a half hour of beating with a hammer and torch, nothing.

Use an air hammer/chisel. Leave the nut on the very end of the bolt for more surface area. Spray it down with WD-40/PB blaster/etc. and hit it. Bolt dropped out within 15-20 seconds.

Re: pan hard rod bolts STUCK!

FINALLY! After cutting out the bolts I still had some metal to grind away so I picked up a grinder and what do you know the panhard rod dropped right out, what a relief that was. I also picked up a 255 walbro pump since I was removing the rear, so I started to take out the gas tank and what do I see? A BIG FREAKIN HOLE cut into the car since the previous owner was to lazy to drop the rear end to change the fuel pump. So I ripped the carpet up to find that he put rivets into a sheet of plastic and also caulked it down. I would like to meet who ever did this just to ask him what the hell was he thinking. I might just have to weld some sheet metal back in there to make myself feel better.
