Shocks upgrade

Hi, i have 1984 Z28 im looking to replace my shocks, i already have eibach sport springs, i have lots of extra weight in the trunk from stereo and was wondering what type of shock i need for this weight (approx 200 pounds)

I always reccomend KONIs. I have them and love them. Kinda pricey, but well worth it.

ok, is there just one model for this car ? and will they handle the extra weight? i just dont want my rear end sitting lower then the front...

Well, the ride height is determined by the springs alot more than the shocks. KONIs offer a Yellow and Red line. The Yellows are the 'sport' version.

Yes. They offer more dampening than the reds. But neither will have much if any affect on the ride height. If you're worried about where it will ride, you need to consider the rear springs.

Many people report the sportlines are too soft for even a stock car, so I'm thinking with lots of audio goodies in the rear, you would be bottoming out all the time.

If you don't want to waste money on something that doesn't work, get the Koni Yellows. They are almost the same price of the Belsteins you are considering, they are adjustable, they work with lowered cars, and they have a lifetime warranty.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the Konis are a little stiffer when set to full stiff then the Belsteins are, and the Belsteins are made more for the high performance cruiser... Konis are for the high performance racing enthusiast.

Oh. Sorry about that, then. I didn't realize they had some that would work with lowered cars. Still, I would choose KONIs for the reasons Racing Geek listed.

After you get your new shocks and with all ur stereo equip. and urself in the car and still a little low in back u could also get thicker insulators for the springs to raise u up slightly unless ur 1" too low then u got to find new springs. Later.

Using thicker spring isolators will only raise the height of the vehicle, they won't help prevent it from bottoming out. After all, your not changing the spring rate using that method.

But won't the extra room of thicker spring isolators, like 4th gen ones, possibly prevent car bottoming out because they do add extra room for the suspension to travel? Maybe not all the time, but it might prevent bottoming out so often.

I have a heavy box with 2 subs and an amp in the trunk, with a Prokit and Koni yellows, I have never bottomed out.

I would put the whatever shocks you decide with, and go from there. It's easy to swap out the spacers if you end up needed to.
