Check out my Torque arm idea!!

Soo i was bored and looking up how torque arms work, and i found out that technically the shorter the toqrue arm the more "leverage" it has which cause the rear end to have more downforce. Unfortunately having a short torque arm for accel means that your car won't brake for crap.

So here is what i thought of. Its a double de-coupled toqrue arm that braces itself off a brace system that moves up and down with the rearend but will not pivot because it has four roller mounts above and next to each other all connected by tubular bars.

Im sure it has a tooonnnnn off issues with clearance and measurements and whatnot but I figured I'd share it with some engineering ThirdGeners.

Suspension components work poorly behind the axle.

case in point: you never see a swing arm suspension on the front of a motorcycle..

and on top of that, how will the "suspension" flex?? you'd be better off trying a leaf spring conversion..

Re: Check out my Torque arm idea!!

Also, shorter arms only work well in lower power vehicles. It's seems to be that right around 500hp is the "mark". Once you go past that, the shorter arms react to-fast, thus causing the tires to rebound and unload/spin. If you valve the shocks tight enough to negate this, you have a very stiff suspension that doesn't work very well down track.

Glad to see some thought and ingenuity on the board though.

Re: Check out my Torque arm idea!!

haha. Got it. It was just an idea. That'd be funny if a car had enough power to spring the backend off the ground. Weird. Thanks for checking it out.

what do you think wheel hop is? Rarely is it to the point that the tires fully leave the ground, but that is what is happening.

basically a complicated and inefficient leaf spring setup here. Good thoughts tho and kudos on the diagrams

Wheel hop is when your rear tries spin hard enough to move you suspension up and when they go to regrip and break loose again because there is not enough pressure down on them. I meant it would be funny if the rear end off the car went up because the toqure arm pushed so hard on it and just picked up the rear tires with it. With wheel hop the car doesn't really go up and down, just the suspension does.

Thanks and this setup has colil springs still. I didn't think that leaf springs reacted from torque. My bulky torque arms raen't coupled to anything. The Red inbetween the suspension arms and the frame arms are poly bushings. This whole setup would probably be just heavy on the rear axle anyway which is worse for handling than stock torque arms hahaha.

Heyyy can anyone explain this one to me and will it fit our cars???
