Re: 90/10 Front Drag Strut

i use em for street and strip.. they are basically the budget drag strut.. if you can find them, use worn out stock struts.. and when i say worn out, i mean worn out to the point that it can even hold its own shaft up..

My Iroc is not a daily driver but, i drive it a lot in good weather. I don't think i feel safe driving around on worn out struts all the time. LOL

If you don't feel safe riding around on worn out struts, you won't feel safe on 90/10's. - Worn out struts just means the piston and/or fluid is trashed/gone, thus it isn't dampening as it's supposed to. The way they're built it would be highly unlikely to have one come apart. I'd be willing to bet there's more 3rd gens still riding on stockers than there are those who have replaced them with good struts.

As for 90/10's they're fine for a non daily driven street car that's looking for a little more off the line. If you drive on them a lot they have a tendency to lock-up. If you're running in the sub 9 sec range they tend to keep the front end up to long and allow extra air under the car, thus causing less stability at higher speeds.

Re: 90/10 Front Drag Strut

I use Koni SPA1 struts.

If it's track only 90/10 will work. If it's street/strip, I'd recommend 70/30.

Different worlds by all means, but I've already been in the low 1.2 60ft range with the 10.5 car and it's got Monroe gas-matics. New, but cheapies. I've only got 2" of down travel anyway.

I went 1.66 on 17's in the vert with a 5-speed on the regular KYB's and stll have the stock WS6 sway bar on it.

Re: 90/10 Front Drag Strut

yeah, i mean one day the car is going to be just a track car but for now i still like to get my 60 feet under 1.9's. I will just have to see if i like the 90/10 struts on the street/strip or not. What about not running a front sway bar does that help at all for off the line?

Re: 90/10 Front Drag Strut

Get rid of the front sway bar. Keep or install a rear sway bar.

Re: 90/10 Front Drag Strut

decent rear tires, lower control arms and relocation brackets(if neccessary) should easily net you 1.8-1.9's w/o hurting its handling/driveability in any way.

I went 1.87 on a basically stock suspension(eibach lowering springs and relocates) with nothing more than decent tires and a heavy stereo system in the trunk. At craptastic speedworld I consitently went 1.87-1.90 my first year of college. - A set of drag radials, the stereo out, control arms and the relocates I went into the high 1.7 range.

Re: 90/10 Front Drag Strut

well what i got now is rear boxed control arms, relocates, stock sway bars , eibach lowering springs, all poly bushing, weld in subframe connectors, 9bolt BW with 3.27 gear, street tires BFGoodrich and a 3k stall. Best 60" so far was a 1.91 when 13.57 at 102. but im planning to lose the front sway bar, get 90/10 struts, and a spohn torque arm. See what i get then!

don't bother without getting real tires if you want to see what the car is truly capable of.
