Front End Rebuild Checklist

After much reading in this forum but finding everything scattered around pretty confusingly (even in the stickied thread up top) I'd love it if you guys could take a quick look at the parts list I've compiled and tell me if this should cover me for a front end overhaul.

Centerlink
Idler Arm
2 Inner Rod Ends
2 Outer Rod Ends
2 Adjuster Sleeves
2 Lower Ball Joints
4 Control Arm Bushings (2 front and 2 rear of arm)
2 Sway Bar Endlinks
2 Sway Bar Bushings
2 Control Arm Bumpers

I'm looking at about 400 bucks by putting it all together piece by piece. Mostly Spicer stuff that is sold as AC Delco replacements and some MOOG components.

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

Seems like everything is in order. What do you mean by control arm bumpers?

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

"Control Arm Bumpers" are what they're calling 'bump stops' on the site I'm ordering from.

Mine are FUBAR'ed.

Thanks for the input 91... Very nice car btw.

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

Are you using the stock bushings that come with all those parts ? or upgrading to energys'?

Remember you have to press the bail joints out/in and same with the LCA bushings

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

I already have poly sways and nylon endlinks. I'm going poly on the A-arms this time too.

I know about the press issue. I'm changing my front springs (some MOOGS) out at the same time. So I also got isolators and I'll rent a spring compressor. While it's all out I'm just taking the A-arms into a local shop and asking them to press it all in for a few bucks.

I am PRAYING that I have enough to get it all aligned when I'm said and done. The only alternative is to not drive it for 2 weeks until I can get it aligned if I run out of money

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

Oh, I'd never heard them called that before. Mine are shot too. I'm waiting til I have the extra money and go with KONI progressives

You don't have to press the ball joints in and out. I've always used a 2x4, a BFH, and alot of finesse on mine with no ill effects lol.

If you drive it for two weeks with no allignment and all those new parts, you'll need tires too. Just wait til you can afford an allignment. Trust me on this one. I've done it before and so has my friend with his 95 Integra rebuild.

And thanks.

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

Alignment really wont be a big issue, I had mine after my swap and it was barely any different.

Just make sure you measure the length of your tie rods, and if you can get them to the same size within a thread which is fairly simple if you measure, you should be able to drive and not be hanging on for life

Have you thought about some

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

Good call!

I need brake lines too... I KNOW one of them are swelling.

I get a slight pull to the right under braking. Gets harder the harder I brake, and seems to change with weather and the stars alignment.

I've looked through my brakes 3 times since it started, that's all it could be...

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

I got rebuilt calipers from Advance auto along with new lines. The lovely calipers managed to both have the same problem- the piston came out unevenly and destroyed the inboard pad (Hawk's HPS). I know it wasn't my installion as I'd installed the pads new and never had problems (on mine and several other cars). So, I did this...

Used the spindles from my parts car (91 Formy). Somehow, just changing that and not touching anything else, my toe was out 7/8 of an inch...

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

That is a very nice swap

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't done much improvement to my car since moving out of a house and into an apartment

And 7/8's of an inch is alot to come out of nowhere... Bent spindle???

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

Yeah, it's alot better looking behind the wheels. I have abou $325 in all of it.
Don't feel bad, I've not done anything but that in the last 6-8 months. I've had my car for 5 years, so I've done a little at a time.
I don't know why it was so out. They didn't seem to be bent any. They looked and operate fine. I guess it's just crappy build tolerances.

Re: Front End Rebuild Checklist

Yeah, I really need to get a nice brake setup.

But first I need a front end rebuild + panhard bar (bent mine a long time ago, been slacking on that since I don't drive it much)

THEN it's paint... Clearcoat is going.
