How Hard is it to Drop The Rear End to Get to the Gas Tank?
The time has come for me to replace my intank fuel pump. Problem is I have to drop the rear end to get the fuel tank out. Has anyone out there done this and if so how difficult is it?

by myself it took about 4 hours. MAKE SURE to pre oil all bolts prior to taking everything out. The hardest part for me were getting bolts to break loose. A 2nd person is a +

It is a good day job if you do it on your own, it wont take all day just plan for it. The actual tank out and in is the part that is the hardest just enough room to get it out and back in. Make sure the tank is totally empty that will make it so much easier. Get a repair book on the camaro it will walk you through it step by step.

The rear itself stays bolted in, just need to unbolt the shocks to allow the rear to drop down. The springs will fall out, and the brake line should be un-clipped to allow it to extend further. Then let the rear hang down far enough for tank clearance.
Also remove the plastic from around the neck at the fuel door. Need this for neck clearance.
Remove the rear tires.
If the exhaust is still bolted to the cat (not welded), that can be unbolted and the exhaust pushed over the rear drum/disk to get it out of the way.
There are a couple of decent threads on the Engine Tech board that covers the whole R&R of the tank.

It took me about 5 hours start to finish with my dad helping me. I removed my rear and swapped it for a 4th gen one at this time. Hardest part was getting the panhard rod to break loose. I believe i have the GM service manual how to for a camaro in on my computer. Shoot me a PM if you want me to look for it and email it to you.

Droppin the rear end was EASY. I was actually shocked that all the bolts on my car were not rusted tight. Now removing the tank is a pain in the butt. I heard the higher u lift the car the easier it becomes! Good luck!

like what is being said above, it depends a lot on the condition of the bolts. If they are rotted, they will be a bear to remove. Air tools will be of great assistance here!
Other than that everything else unbolts, no biggie, but the exhaust has to come off, and if its older, you will have to cut it off, then find a way to put it back together.
And a tip, jack up the rear of the car as high as you can get it, and lower the axle as far as you can get it, be sure to unbolt the brake line bracket from the frame too! dont want to break it! Getting the tank out is a tight squeeze and if the rear is low out of the way enough it can be very frustrating.

Removing the sway bar end links also lets it drop further.
