Hello All,
I picked up an 87 IROC a few months back and am slowly buying parts to improve it while it waits out the New England snow.
All suspension parts (bushings etc.) were done by a previous owner a few years ago. I have all records and receipts and no additional aftermarket items were installed.
Since my concern is preserving the T-top body, after researching commonly listed cons with the car, I just bought a set of Hotchkis SFCs and planned on buying a steering box brace (aka Wonderbar), based on the overwhelming praise for it here on the forums.
I was about to purchase one (the 3 hole TBS) - until I noticed that it has been mentioned that IROCS came equipped with them.
So, my questions are: were these supports a standard option for Irocs and if so, did it begin early on, to include the year 1987?
If they were an option, did that option exist in 1987?
Thanks in advance!

Well I know my 87 IROC-Z has a stock steering box support on it.

Standard. All IROC's--starting with the IROC's first year, 85--are equipped with them.Originally Posted by majobis

The aftermarket ones are stouter, and prettier.... just in case you are picky ;-)

i put a factory one on and i liked the feeling. I would get one but aftermarket is not really needed unless you really thrash your car hard on the weekends or something.
Thanks. Now I can spend that saved money on the welding labor for my SFCs'
