front wheel bearings leaking

front wheel bearings leaking

i just bought this 89 and both the front wheel bearings are leaking out of the dust sheild. i have pulled the tires off the front to check the brakes and they are damn near brand new, but hadnt noticed the leak yet. what shoud i do?

There aren't any seals for the outer bearings under the spindle nut caps, only the inner bearings have seals.

You've probably have too much grease in the hub. Or maybe the old grease has thinned down under the heat of disc brake usage. Some of the newer small containers of axle grease now say "for non- disc brake applications". I guess the other type is for higher heat or something.

I'd pull it all apart, clean everything and repack the bearings with the proper extreme pressure axle grease.

the cap.

i figured it had something to do with the heat of the brakes. ill pull it apart today and re-pack them. for the $20 in parts im buying new bearings just to be sure. thanks guys.
