Tire Fit issues
Tire Fit issues
I have a 91 Camaro RS. I got some 4th Gen rims. After doing some searching on here I found I needed 2" spacers for the rear to make the offset correct. But didn't see anything about the front. I got the backs on and they look and work great. But the fronts won't fit, can't get them on because the tire hits the suspension. Can these rims fit, do I need spacers, if so how big before the front/rear offset is wrong? Can I just get new narrower tires for the front??
Re: Tire Fit issues
Oh, I did see that front tie max width is 255 and my tires are 275... So can I just simply put 255-45/R17 tires on the front, and stick with the standard 275-40/R17 in the back? And will that allow me to not have to use any spacers up front??

Changing the tire will not magicly make the rim narrower, the offset is just wrong
the fronts will fit fine, you just need spacers.

Re: Tire Fit issues
But more narrow tires will make the tires more narrow. So if the curent tire is 275, and I change it to 255 width, that is 20 mm difference which is about 10mm per side, that would mean 3/8" further from the back. I don't know if the rim would hit, or not. and I know I'm not the only one doing this swap, so I figured someone here would have done it, and could tell me what they needed to do.
Maybe a combo of spacers and tires... spacers only... And how big of a spacer...
Sorry, I'm new at this.

Re: Tire Fit issues
i hate to have to keep telling people to search, but seriously, this has been covered thousands of times.
They are 4th gen offset wheels, they need spacers, i really doubt 10mm will help you at all. The spacers are generally somewhere from 2 to 2.25" depending on the offset of the wheels you have.
bet way to do it is so sit the wheel in the wheels well at about where you want it to be, maybe a half inch or less from the outside of the fender, then grab a tape measure and see how wide the gap is from the rotor to the back of the wheel and thats the spacer you need.
Doing this with the car at ride height and the suspension loaded would be best
