Different wheel gap on rear fenders...
Hey,
I have noticed on my car lately that the top of the tire on the passenger side is probably around 5" while on the other side the gap is about 1" or less. I just put a used set of GR2's on the back. What could cause this. To state the obvious the tires are the same size lol, could it be I didn't tighten the passenger side shock enough or it worked loose or is something broke?
Thanks, Matt

Re: Different wheel gap on rear fenders...
its seemed to have a hint of it prior to the shocks but not this bad, the right rear fender needs extensive body work as it was hit there before i got the car, we just got it looking as close we could instead of putting a new panel on, thats in the future...is there anyway of telling its tweaked? bodyshop?

Are both springs (and isolators) seated in the pocket correctly?

I think so, I have never had the rear springs out and I've had the car for 5 years...

Did you drop the rear end when you swapped in the shocks?

Re: Different wheel gap on rear fenders...
Mine was always like that. It's more noticeable with wider tires. I don't think the third gen body is symmetrical from front to back or side to side.
Re: Different wheel gap on rear fenders...
mine sits 1/2" high on the rear right, and most of the 3rd gen cars i've seen seem to be the same way, the springs pockets in the rear aren't symetrical in my car, one is almost an inch deeper than the other, so that explains some of it but 5" thats a bit much

Re: Different wheel gap on rear fenders...
Ran out and did a quick measurement and I kind of overestimated...Its about 3/4 on the drivers side and about 2 and a 1/2 on the passenger side...

Re: Different wheel gap on rear fenders...
From what you guys are saying this seems fairly normal, another thing i'v noted is the spring perch's on 82 - 02 rearend's iv seen these out of whack and bent. something over looked.

Re: Different wheel gap on rear fenders...
You may have some bind in the sway bars too, if it really bothers you, you might want try doing the measurement with the sway bars unhooked on one side. Mine has always sat 1/2 higher on the passenger side.
