poly tq-arm and tranny mount problems
I replace my tq-arm and my tranny mount with poly parts.
Now my car rides like it has wooden tires. I'm really not happy with it.
Does anyone know which one is causing this, or is it both.
Anyone else have this problem?
Oh, the traction is great and the car is 'tight'. Just maybe a little too tight.
thank you
PS. What if i replaced the lca bushings; will this cause the same problem? If so; I guess ill go with new rubber bushings. What about the solid 'rod-end' mounts, are they horrible. Do "all" poly bushings cause this; or just certain ones. I also have some poly sway bar "end-link" bushings, because mine are old and defective, is this gonna make my ride quality bad when/if I install them?

Re: poly tq-arm and tranny mount problems
ita road noise and vibrations, its normal to pick some up. The stock rubber bushings do a great job dampening them, but suck for performance. The poly trans mounts usually raise the trans too, which changes the drive line angle and can cause vibrations in the driveshaft.

Re: poly tq-arm and tranny mount problems
Since my car, according to my wife, is a toy and not really a DD, I accept the noise/vibration. If I were building the car again, I'd replace rubber with rubber for the sake of DD comfort. I've spent hundreds for the sake of touting that my car has this, that or the other thing, but like most members who upgrade their cars, I don't have the driving ability to truly take advantage of those upgrades.

Re: poly tq-arm and tranny mount problems
Bingo, I didnt know what caused the vibration @70mph. I had my driveshaft balanced; that didnt work, then changed the driveshaft, to no avail.
Still got the vibe. This used to be a hot 406 race/city car. Now I live in the country and drive 90 miles to work EVERY day. The 406 cracked while it set up for 8 years while I drove a 4 banger S10. I got sick of it rotting away, now I have a mild 350/tpi in it. Im gonna change the 4.11's for 3.42's.I have a 86 firebird with a v6 in it (200k parts car with a rod knocking). I guess that I will change the trans mount also. I wonder if I have to change the poly tq-arm mount. Well, its cheap. I used to have a brand-new '89 l-98 iroc. It rode great. Rubber and all. Also i'm older now, and less tolerant. But; im not too old, to enjoy my car. I have a blue bottle in the back for those occasions
.
Today Im gonna fix my speedo so I'll have my cruise control and lockup back.
I guess while Im under there im gonna change the tranny mount. And...if Im still not happy with it, when i change the gears next payday, ill change the tq-arm mount also. Thanks guys.
Ps..any thoughts on the poly sway-bar end-link bushings? They are still unopened and I can return them for rubber ones; but I dont have "any" bushings on there now,,so, i gotta do something. Surely they wont affect ride quality much.

Re: poly tq-arm and tranny mount problems
To reduce the vibrations some, as I understand it, go back in and replace the poly tranny mount with stock rubber - I read that most vibration issues come from the tranny mount and not so much from the others.
For the squeaks - did you lube them properly? I've never had any squeaking from mine.

Re: poly tq-arm and tranny mount problems
Ok, so what I did was to replace the poly trans mount with a stock rubber one. I guess I could have tryed the shim thing, but I am completely happy now. I can drive at any speed that I want and no vibration. Before; I could not drive over 65mph comfortably. I still have the poly tq. arm mount and I have no complaints. My car no longer feels like it has wooden wheels over 65mph. Thanks for all your help. I'm still gonna change my rear gear and when I do, im gonna box my lower control arms and put in new rubber bushings. Im gonna cheap out on the control arms and just box them at work. Im a welder.
But Im kinda scared of the poly bushing problems, so Ill just put in new rubber ones. Back in the olden days I had a brand new '89 L-98 iroc; and I really loved the way it felt on the road (stiff, but not harsh),,,of course it was not a t-top car, and it was new, so not as many rattles as my present car.
Thanks for everyones opinion, it really helped me.
