Re: weight distribution numbers?corner weights?

they vary greatly depending on the Make model and year (Firebird, gta, IROC, Belinetta (sp?), Z28, etc)

These cars overall eights vay from about 3100- 3800 lbs.

All bias' are different based on model and options.

THere is a post somewhere that lists factory weights from the build sheets. I will search build sheets and see if I can find it for you. I do recall I had the closest in 50/50 bias even when my car was stock, but I was also a lightweight nosed Vr with a special "IROC looking'' Calif only package that weighed in a little heavier in the rear than most V6's do If I recall, mine stock was aprox 57/43...Ill check.

Re: weight distribution numbers?corner weights?

Found it. I was 55.4/44.6. most are in the 59/41 range.

I later reduced this slightly more through extensive modifications but mostly greeatly reduced polar weight at the extremities from the car's center of gravity so it would transition alot quicker than any 3rd gen you wil see on the street with full creature comforts (meaning I did not gut this car like a race car cockpit to make it light and agile) I concentrated on reducing rear exhuast weight, Front bumper weight, axle weight, suspension assembly weight, I did remove completely the spare tire and crap (AAA plus roadside service). Just alot of little things that all add up (Lightweight mimistarter, headers, aluminum parts,Carbon fiber driveshaft, the list goes on and on. Overall though, the car eneded up heavier in weight due to the extensive Chassis bracing I added as well as the heavy Dynomate I lined the cockpit floorboard with, but did remove carpet padding and install aftermarket lighter carpet kit and much lighter Momo seats and bracket. I never put the car onto scales, I just never got around to bothering to see, just like I have never bothered to see any of my street cars on a dyno- I do kindof wish now that I had for info sake.

5 things affect chassis dynamics.

1) this subject of Weight Bias front to rear.
2) Vehicle roll weight (Height of CG or center of gravity)
3) Polar weight (Yaw motion)
4) Overall vehicle weight
5) Unsprung weight- this one is the one that really cost money.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...t-invoice.html

If you can move weight, move it to the center of the car, move it from unsprung to sprung, move it lower, or remove it entirely.

Some things are a give and take. To add perfomance, generally weight needs to be added to the chassis for bracing. So lighting weigh off suspension parts and adding chassis weight for bracing equals sometimes a wash in overall weight, but is a major advantage in ride quality and mechanical grip.
