rear notched lower control arms?

I thought i had seen a while ago a set of rear lower control arms that are fabricated with a notch for wider wheels and tires but i have no idea who makes them?Has anyone seen them or know who makes them?

Re: rear notched lower control arms?

Never seen a "off-the-shelf" set, just customized ones.

I just used UMI tubular ones & with the offset bushing for the rod end mounts at both ends.

I was not sure if they were a off the shelf set or not, but your idea is good with the offset ends i might end up doing that. Thanks for the idea! Im tryin to fit the widest wheel/tire combo.

Re: rear notched lower control arms?

nobody makes a notched arm, you can get offset arms from most manufactures, like the ones stephen mentioned. they provide a littel more clearance.

Spohn made these for me a couple years back

now you cant just bolt these to a car and stuff a huge tire on it, you have to mini-tub the car to fit anything over a 315 and keep it tucked under the car with adequate clearance to keep them from rubbing. the springs get in the way too, so do the panhard mounts. Im using 18x12 rear wheels with 8.5" of BS.

but if you are using a 15" wheel with a drag tire, thats a different story

no ****, just noticed you are from flemington, im right down the road in Ringoes.

i usually go to Flemington cruise night, Somerville is a mess for parking if you dont get there early. I think i only made it to Flemington cruise night once last year because i was too busy. What car do you usually bring? or do you just hang out? maybe i've seen the car.

what backspacing/offset are the wheels? a 11" wheel, or a 10.5 and a 315 tire like what Stephen has is about your limit before you need to start some serious cutting. The arms i had made will only work on a 18" or larger wheel. The rear of the bar will rub the inside of a 17" wheel

Re: rear notched lower control arms?

I have an 86 Iroc thats blue metalic, zr1 corvette tailights, suicide turbo hood its useally sitting on the ground i had fabbed air ride for it years ago.I know most people on this forum dislike or think the air ride ruins the car but i like it.Years ago my buddys and i used to build lowriders for show so that seems to still be a part of the way i built my car to each there own i like them all. Im not sure wht the off set was originally but i had put a 1" billet adapter spacer in the rear to bring them out to almost the rolled under sheet metal lip not sure if that helps you or not figuring how wide i can go.With a 10.5 would i have to mod anything do you think?

Re: rear notched lower control arms?

with a 10.5, idealy i would like to see 7" of bs, could get away with 6.5 if you dont min the wheel sitting about flush with the outside of the wheel well, might actually be where you have them now. To get an idea of what kind of work you are getting into, just take a wheel off, put a straight edge across the rear rotor/drum face and measure back. I like to see at least 1/2" of clearance between the tire and the sheetmetal. This way you can see whats in the way.

With 7 you will have to cut of the entire bump stop area and weld a plate over the opening, and hammer the front of the wheel well a bit.

I would highly recommend measuring first just to get a idea of whats going on and what work you have to do before you commit to the new wheels. Check our Stephens threads, he is using 7" of bs on his wheels, he has some good pictures of what he had to remove.

Cant say that i have seen the car at flemington, not normally a lot of 3rd gens, only me occiosanlly a white 87 iroc a guy i know owns, and last year there was a funky green one.

Re: rear notched lower control arms?

Actually, I never went back & took a wheel off to take final pics of what I had to cut out. Quite a bit more than just the bumpstop & hammering the front. I had to do a good bit of cutting & hammering (went & bought a small 5lb sledge just to do it) to the front part of the inner wheel well. The rear was nothing more than slight hammering.
