Need help changing springs on a 1991 RS.
Hello, I have a 1991 Camaro RS. I bought some spring compressors and can't seem to get them on the springs because the fender is in my way. Anyone know an easy way to change the springs. Any pictures or info would be helpful.

Sounds like you have the wrong spring compressor. The one I've used is an internal type--with a 4" pipe nipple. I'll see if I can find a pic.

I've never bothered to use any kind of spring compressors. Taking them out, I put a short length of chain through the front lower a-arm and through the spring, to prevent any possibility of it launching out. Never needed it, but always do it anyways. Its better safe than sorry.

Here you go. Either a chain or a comprehensive dental plan is recommended. BTW, the pipe nipple will make life easier.

If you dont care about the springs you are taking out, just heat one spot in the middle with a torch until cherry red. It'll compress to half it's height in about 5 seconds and you can take it out by hand with no compresser. That's the red neck way. If you are one of those guys who has to consult with his "mechanic" than this might not be for you.

I did a quick search on "internal spring compressor" and came up with a number of possibilities. I purchased one at a swap meet, but I've also rented one from AutoZone--which probably isn't something you can do.
