Drum Brake Cylinders

I know nothing about drum brakes having previously only owned cars with disc's. I mail ordered some new front pads & rear shoes. I fitted the front pads myself and noticed that the brake lines were perished. So I took car to brake specialists and asked them to replace lines and fit new rear shoes. They said they would not fit the shoes without reconditioning the cylinders as 80% of cylinders will leak upon fitting new shoes thereby trashing said new shoes. AM I being bull****ted, or are thirdgen cylinders generally OK? Any advise will be appreciated. If odds in my favour I will try to replace the shoes myself.

Cheers

I'd say that if the cylinders seem fine and dont leak now, there should be no difference after putting on new shoes. If it happens that your cylinders are bad, you can replace them rather cheaply. As for installing the shoes, you should be able to do it yourself as long as you remember how to put everything back together or have a shop manual. Good luck
