Handling problem
Handling problem
My 1985 Camaro is handling terribly. When I am going down the highway @ about 65-70mph, the car almost feels like it is swaying from side to side. It won't track down the road right. The alignment is good and the tires are also fine. I noticed that the front end of the car is sitting up higher than the back. However, the rear springs and shocks were replaced with factory replacements. I found out that the lower tie bar is missing from the car, and that part is on order from Michigan. It bolts up above the front sway bar. I would like to upgrade my suspension, but I would first like to be able to drive the car down the highway without fighting it the whole way. Please help, I am really lost?!?!?

Does the car seem to wander from the rear. I had a similar problem with my 87 formula years ago. The car would sway side to side from the rear as if the car was not attached to the rear axl.
Eventually, I found that one of the trailing arm bushings was worn from where it was pressed. Even though the bushing was good the trailing arm was free to drift around it causing the axl to yaw side to side.
Replacing the trailing arm was not an easy task. Soak those bolts down a few days before the job. Good luck!
