1LE front wheel bearing question.....
1LE front wheel bearing question.....
I'm converting my car to 1LE front brakes. I'm getting the Guldstrand brakets, Slotted 1LE rotors from Autospecialty, and stainless sleeved calipers from King Kaliper. I got anchor plates on order from Dal at Vandevere too. My only question right now is the wheel bearings. Would replacement Timkens for stock brakes work, or are 1LE bearings different? Also, can I get a hardware kit for the front calipers on 1LE cars from cooper or raybestos with the clip and all that garbage? Thanks in advance guys.

Last time I was at the Timken site probably a year ago they listed the front wheel bearings as follows:
Standard spindles: Inner bearing is a Set 6
Outer bearing is a Set 34
1LE spindles or as they describe it (HD):
Inner bearing is a Set 6
Outer bearing is a Set 3
Described the seal as a #8871 for both applications.

So is the ID of the outer bearing inner race the same in both applications? Will I be able to put a 1LE rotor/hub and wheel bearings on my standard spindle? I'm getting those Guldstrand adapters so I can mount the PBR caliper and anchor plate on my stock spindle. I was just wondering if there was a difference in spindle diameter between standard and 1LE steering knuckles. Thanks guys.

Well that's a good question. I can't think of a reason why that's not possible, but I'm not sure. I didn't print all the specs of the cups and cones in the various bearing sets I listed. The computer I'm using is pretty crappy at dealing with sites like Timken's.
You can find that info at Timken.com. I'm interested in finding out myself.
