Does a 10 point rollcage (has side beams) protect you at all in a side collision?
Does a 10 point rollcage (has side beams) protect you at all in a side collision?
I would like to know the question in the subject because I want to run fiberglass doors, but I still drive it on the street every once and a while and want to be safe.

Yep, a properly designed roll cage (anything with 6 points or more) will have a diagonal beam on each side running from the main hoop down to the front corner of the floor pan (close to where the "dead pedal" is). The NHRA rules have drawings/specs on where this beam should be in relation to the driver. See:

Craze: Roll cages are called after the number of points of contact TO THE FLOOR/FRAME. A 6 pt cage has a main hoop (2pts), a front hoop (2 more points) and two rearward supports (2 more again). Side intrusion bars (the ones near the doors) do not count as points as they go from roll bar to roll bar and not to the floor/frame. A standard race 6 pt cage (as in my wifes 87IROC) has 2 side intrusion bars on both doors (ie 4 additional bars)and a cross member running from behind the drivers head down to the "point" contact of the passenger side front hoop. I would match the "safety" of this design against any factory "door guards".
