full discs on a 84?
full discs on a 84?
I am wanting to upgrade the brakes on my 84 V6 before I move on to the engine. I know the 15th anniversary model had four wheel discs, will these bolt on to my car or am I going to need a new rear end? I am looking for a bolt-on application with little to no modifying or fabricating.

just a WAG, but i'd say you need the whole rear. i have a 10 bolt out of a 85 z28, so i know the rear are out there someplace to be found.

I just completed this swap into my '84(check Sig). The entire rear axle carrier will have to be swapped in from a rear disc car because the flanges on the end of the axle tubes are completely different.
I spent less than $350 for every thing out of the wrecking yard!
This is what I replaced,
*Complete rear axle housing, for reasons mentioned above/calipers and rotors and brake lines(I got lucky and mine came with 3:42 gears and posi diff).
*Emergency brake cable from caliper all the way to the splitter plus the extra bracket that bolts to your original on the bottom of the car.
*Rear brake line from proportioning valve back to the single line coming from the rear axle. )Because it will enter the new prop. valve at a different angle)
*proportioning valve/master cylinder
(the fittings are different plus the routing/bends are changed slightly)
(also I went with the '89 model valve because it fit the front brake line fittings)
(I have '92 valve but could not use it because the thread pitch in it were different from front brake line fittings)
*If you do not get the prop. valve from a rear disc car you may have to install an adjustable valve in the rear brake line to cut down on the pressure.
'89-'92 PBR rear disc are the brakes of choice(light weight and fewer problems then the earlier units)
If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

Thanks 84IROC, I thought that might be what had to be done but wasn't sure. I am assuming that any 3rd gen rear end will bolt in. As far as brake lines I am going to upgrade all the lines to stainless steel, or flexible stainless lines where I can. So all I need is the axle.
