Rear drum problem
Rear drum problem
Ok.. i put all brand new brakes on my car..the rears have NEW cyls, shoes and hardware..BUT.. it is snowing here in ohio and i found another problem. All 3 camaros i have owned do/did NOT hold the rear brakes!! I push my foot as hard as i can and the fronts work great, the rears just spin on the snow/ice...whats the problem?! The master cyl is good, so i have eliminated that already. Any ideas out there?? Four wheel stoppin would help greatly

Make sure they are adjusted properly. With the rear raise off the ground, spin the wheel. There should be some drag, if not, turn the star adjuster wheel until they do drag. Personally, i like a high pedal, so i adjust the rears so they really drag hard. It wont stay that way for long and will have to be readjusted often, but i dont mind.

Sometimes the teeth on the star wheel are worn or damaged and the self-adjuster arm won't rotate the wheel to make the shoes take up the gap.
I've had to file and reshape the adjuster arm so it will bite into the star wheel and turn it like it's supposed to.
