thinking about doing some suspension mods, where to start?
just like the title says. i have an 86 camaro cpe that i have done some work on, check the signature for most of the modding. i get about a month off for winter break, so i am gonna get a job. i would like to start on the suspension, but i have no realistic idea of what i need, or what works well. my needs right now are a meaner looking stance, better cornering and a quicker launch. im not sure about pricing right now, but perferbly everything under like 800 or bucks for parts. what do u guys suggest, shocks, struts, springs, and what not?
thanks alot
daniel

86 camaro cpe(dont laugh)has 92z28 body kit with GTS covers, new red paint and a killer stereo. 2 amps, 8 speakers, disc changer, custom install with subs coming by the end of the summer. sawpped (or in the process of) 305lg4 for brand new 350. TES headers, flowmaster cat back, performer manifold, TCI converter, jet chip, kn with dual snorkel cleaner. and she still passed the sniffer!

IMHO you wouldn't build a house on a weak foundation, so why not start with your suspension foundation. Start with weld in subframe connectors. Then make sure all your bushings are up to par by upgrading to poly bushings or the like. Then if stance is most important go with the shocks and springs. If cornering is more important go with 1 1/4" front sway bar and 1" rear sway bar. If launch is most important then go with a drag shock set up which is different from a cornering set up in that you will have very soft front shocks so the car's front will lift and plant the rear for optimum traction. Finally, remember that wheels and especially tires are extremely important in suspension tuning. For cornering, you want very stiff sidewalls on the tires to prevent roll off, but for launch, you want soft tires so they compress instead of spin.
