getting Started On Suspension...

Hey everyone, As you can See ive Got a 85 SC that is In essentially stock trim as Far as the suspension is Concerned. with 150k, It handles like ****. Massive Body roll Seems to be the Biggest Problem. Ive replaced the Rear shocks with KYB GR2's Cause they were 16 bucks Each and the Car was Damn Dangerous With the Stock ones still in there.

My Question is, Where Should I start? Im not terribly concernd with a Comfertable Ride, I would Rather Have a Car that hung on in the Corners and Planted Coming out.

As far as usuage, Primarily Im going For Twisties, with the Occasional Trip to the 1/4. This is My daily Driver, but the Only Driveability Concern I really have is MPG, Wich isnt really Suspension Related

TIA for any suggestions, I appriciate Them All

like everything else it all depends on money and how much you have to spend. bigger sway bars, strut tower brace, better struts and shocks, springs, bigger wheels and low profile tires, might want to consider a set of wilwood brakes.

Thanks ede, Im Willing To spend Every Cent I dont Spend on Gas or the Girl. Im Mostly looking For the Most Cost effective First Step to Take, What about Adding a Stock Rear sway Bar out of a junkyard? Poly Bushings ? How about a STB ? Lca's... and So on. I plan to drop in Eibach Springs here pretty fast cause the Ones that are on there are worn out, But aside From that, I dont really know where to take this.

I know How To Build a Motor, Mostly. But How Do I make My car Not Handle Like a Boat ?

TIA

Now i've got no experience in these matters... But i will tell you one thing, after living on the boards every free min i get for almost 4 months i've learned a few things from past posts
Strut Tower Braces, Edelbrock 3 pt (Triangulates flex)
SFC
LCA (do not relocate)
and a sway bar would increase
Twisty performance, once again dont quote me and anyone feel free to slap me if i've said something wrong

Well, the only thing that I would suggest is to not go with polyurethane bushings. I may catch a lot of heat for that statement but I think that of all the things I did - this one made the most difference in "rough" riding. I can feel every little grain of sand through my suspension, and I mostly blame my poly. I've got the tubular LCA's, the tubular panhard, KYB struts and shocks, Eibach lowering springs, Alston SFC's, wonderbar, WS6 sway bars, and poly all around (and I mean all around) - she handles like she's on rails, which is the good part. The bad part is that I feel every little blip in the road. My brother has pretty much all of the mods I do on his (ack!) Mustang, except for the poly, he used new rubber OEM. His car handles pretty damn good for a Stang, without the rough ride.

This is just my $.02 worth,
Steve

Yeah, I figured rough ride wouldn't be a concern either but after a while it gets old especially since mine is my daily driver. Sometimes I get out of my car and just shake my head because I would like to replace the poly with rubber but just can't bear to go through all of that BS again. Just something to consider - you can replace everything else first, see how it feels and THEN if you have to have that last little bit, then replace the rubber with poly. Remember, just my $.02.

I've been doing a lot of reading lately on this site and others. Here are some things I have come up with and plan to do:
1.STB(edelbrock should work w/o AC bracket, Steve Spohn has one coming out by spring)
2.SFC's(Spohn already has some out)
3.Del-A-Lums for the front suspension to avoid stiction(global west)
4.Eibach pro-kit(1.25"drop)/Tokico nonadjustable or Eibach pro-kit/5-way adjustable shocks/struts kit. 400.00 for former and 600.00 for the latter(adj). Best price I could find at www.groupawheels.com
5.LCA's with poly
6.Relocation brackets if you are lowering your car.
7.Adjustable panhard bar(spohn). My axle is not centered on my car.
8.New poly end links for sway bars
9.ROH 16x8 wheels. ZS or Snyper at same address as shocks/springs
10.Stock torque arm w/poly bushing. very nice

This is what I'm looking to do soon. I have the torque arm bushing installed and the Del-A-Lums on the way. Keep in touch with your additions at craigmaners@dotplanet.com
Hope this helps,
Craig

I also have some ignition goodies and new carb secondaries to put on soon.
84 Z28 305HO, 5spd, 220,000 miles, Edelbrock intake, Hedman headers, low restriction exh(w/cat), K&N air filter. Best 1/4 so far 14.649 @ 94.77mph
