Cutting Springs?????

can anyone suggest a good tech article on how to properly cut down stock rear springs? are there any probs associated with cutting springs?
my problem is that i have taken so much weight out of my car for drag racing that the back of the car is about 2.5" higher than stock. any other way i can lower it on the cheap with out messing up my launching ability?

thanks
tim

The Camaro Performance Handbook has a section in the back about trimming the springs written by Herb Adams. The guy who helped design the 3rd gen suspension when he worked for GM. Basically he cuts em with a torch, bends the end back to a stock appearing configuration and lets them air cool vice dousing them in water like some say to do.

Umm,, putting a freshly cut hot spring into a bucket of cold water would be a slightly bad idea.

Use a high speed cutting wheel to cut off (in small 1/4 coil steps) the tangential end. That would be the end at the top or the one that only touches in one place.
