Moog tie rods + Spohn sleeves.. problems?
Moog tie rods + Spohn sleeves.. problems?
I remember hearing the moog tie rods are longer than usual - but does that mean I have to cut them if im using spohn sleeves? Anyone here actually have experience with both?
Re: Moog tie rods + Spohn sleeves.. problems?
The sleeves are getting tougher and tougher to adjust (near max toe in setting i suspect) and both wheels still have a slight toe out. Ugh.

I bought the complete kit from spohn and still had to cut the tie rod ends a little on the passenger side. Even without the adjusters on just butting the inner and outer tie rods against each other it still had toe out, there really wasn't any other way around it that I could see.

Ill try to see how they look without the sleeves, probably end up cutting them. How much did you end up cutting them? Im trying to think if this would somehow screw with the steering geometry? I guess it really doesn't affect anything.

Same here, no spohn sleeves but similar and the tie rod ends are longer than stock and hard to set toe in

the moog ones that i have have a rounded bump on the end of the threads you can grind off and get the extra travel for the toe in setting

That's what mine have, I'm going to lob the end off.

I took about 1/4" off the inner and the outer when I did it. I just overlapped them without the adjuster sleeve on to see about how much material I'd need to take off and took half of it off of each rod end.

Re: Moog tie rods + Spohn sleeves.. problems?
When I initially installed it I held them together like you did and was under the impression they were too long, I could only get them a tad shorter than my original tie rod was set (and it was set for too much toe out), with the susp. drooping on the 2 post I wasn't sure that the excess toe out with the 2 rod ends held together was realistic for static ride height but I guess it is. I wonder why moog makes these too long. If I remember correctly I could't get mine under 44.5cm pivot to pivot.

Mine threaded up no problem. I got the kit from Spohn that had the centerlink, inner tie rods, outer tie rods, idler arm, and adjusters. No problems at all. Getting the old stuff out wasn't fun but bolting up all the new parts and adjusting the toe only took about an hour.
