Cut spring question (which end goes up?)

Out of curiosity, which end goes up into the pocket and which end goes down in the A-arm? When I pulled the springs out, both ends were tapered the exact same amount, so I cut a 1/2 coil off the bottom. After cutting them, I reinstalled the springs with the tapered end up in the pocket and the cut end down in the A-arm.

I'm assuming that's correct?
