Steering question (S 10 conversion)

Ok i have looked in the threads about the steering and most have said it fits like a glove so i'm a bit worried. I have a box from an 86 S-10 and it fits the holes fine cept for the grinding i have to do on the sway bar mount which i saw in a post here but no one addresses if they had issues with the steering shaft from the camaro PS pump to hook up to the S-10 shaft. The shafts on the 2 boxes are totally diffrent. Did i get the wrong year of pump or do i need the S-10 steering shaft as well to hook up to my steering column? BTW it's a 91 Camaro. Can't have power steering b/c of the lower blower pully from what i hear.

If you meant to say steering box in both those places, then yes, your stock Camaro steering column/shaft should work with the S-series steering box.

Re: Steering question (S 10 conversion)

The shafts "look" different because the manual box doesn't have the long body covering the majority of the shaft. The length of the shaft in relation to the mount bolts is the same length. There is a plastic attachment that fits over the shaft which allows the steering shaft cover to attach to it and cover the rag joint if you want to use it.

The clearance issues with the swap bar is minimal. It's discussed occasionally but most people who install the manual box are not doing it for a handling option where a sway bar is required.

You use a manual box for drag racing or to clean up the engine compartment in a street car. If you're doing a lot of quick cornering where a sway bar is really needed such as in autocross, you'll want a power box.

yes i did mean box. Sry about that. I went with the manual box for a little more room in the front for the lower blower pully. I planned on keeping the front sway bar b/c it will still be a street car. I got the steering shaft on the S-10 box i was freaking out b/c the shafts look very different and it didn't seem like it would fit all the way in the steering shaft b/c the old one had a nipple on the end of it and the S-10 one did not.
