3rd and 4th gen rear end swap ?
What years of 3rd gen rear are compatible with a '91 Camaro RS? I want to swap in something with disc rears and don't want to change to much other hardware. I specifically want to avoid changing the master cylinder.
On a separate topic, everyone mentions the 4th gen rears cause the tires to stick out on 3rd gens. About 2 inches on either side. Is this with 3rd gen wheels or 4th gen wheels? If the 4th gen wheels don't stick out as much, do they stick out at all. If someone has a website with pictures of what this looks like, post a link.
Thanks in advance,
GCore

You can get '90-92 rears with the 28-spline axleshafts (stronger than the earlier 26-spline shafts), rear disc brakes, and either 3.23 or 3.42 gears. The master cylinder will be the same, but you'll need to change the proportioning valve and maybe the e-brake cable(s).
With a 4th-gen rear, the wheels would stick out 2 inches if you had 3rd-gen wheels on, and would be about the same as stock with 4th-gen wheels.

GCore.
I have just done a complete rear end swap. '94 Disc axle onto a '82 T/A. with Drums. No problems. Have not changed M/C or Valve and all works fine. Alot better than with drums. I'm not saying you do not have to change the Valve or M/C. There are many thoughts on this matter. Maybe I've been lucky or will have to later after more brake testing. Yes the 3rd gen, wheels are out 2 more inches. 4th gen wheels have a differant off-set. Tire size is the factor to keep in mind. I'm running 225-60-15 and clear the guard. If you go to 3rd Gen home page and "Readers Rides" I have posted pics of my car. If you need more pics, E-mail me and I can send more detailed ones. Note: go to "brake Conversion: by "lukerene" in this forum. just found pics of my car posted by someone. better than the ones in "Rides"
