Steve, I would try to find a donor car. Then simply swap in an '89-'92 complete disc brake rear end assy. Parking brake cables, etc.
If you can do it? We would love to see a picture of your car. Right hand drive??

I just forwarded it to you. I still can't believe it's an '82. It looks to be in near new condition.

When I did my 9" swap I went with a set of aftermarket units from a company called TSM. The kit uses an 11" rotor. I'm pretty sure they make a kit for drum braked thirdgen rears. They will sell just the brackets if you want or a whole kit. Calipers with emergency brake provisions are available. Total cost for the kit I have was less than $300.

Thanks Andy for posting my pics. If I had known I would have put the bowling bowl wheel caps on and washed the car. ( can see dirt on the back bumper )Next time. Not a bad ride even after 100,000 Miles. Goes like a rocket. Could not notice much change going from a 3.23 to 2.73 rear end swap just finished. With donor cars in Australia. As far as f-body's go, unless a ralation who has one dies and leaves it to you, forget it. Getting some parts here is a nightmare sometimes or very expensive. Lucky mine in 10 yrs has cost me less than if I had a local made car and maybe held it's resale value better. The price you pay for a quality ride.
Steve, If you look at the pics on the post by Andy in this forum. I have a '94 disc rear now with posi (due to my old posi dying, which had drums)It cost me A$600 in Melb. and no extras needed. Have not changed M/C or Valve. Had to make small mod'f to h/brake cables which came with rear. Wheels now 50mm further out each side. No problem with 225-60-15 tyres ( tires ) for you Americans. If you need help in Aussi, feel free to fax me.
