Front brakes don't seem to be working (um, help?)

Driving back from a service call today in my 1984 TA, 4 wheel disc. Went to stop for a light, the pedal sank very low and took a lot of effort to stop the car.
The front end doesn't dip like it used to when braking hard, the car just seems to want to keep rolling when depressing the brake pedal. Also hearing a lot of air noise when depressing the pedal. Fluid's full, no leaks found.
With my work schedule I don't have any time to mess with this, so i'm taking it to my mechanic tomorrow. Any advice on what to tell him it needs? Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you hear the hiss of escaping air then it means the diaphragm in the booster is blown out. Not an expensive part but it's a MAJOR pain to change.

probably a bad master cylinder, they are like 20-30 bucks and can be changed in an hour or so..

Well, looks like you're both right. I went to visit my mechanic when he called me, and both things were shot.
The diaphragm was blown open, and the master cylinder leaked like a sieve. It's a wonder my brakes even worked at all. It'll be fixed today along with a full flush n' fill and all the preventative stuff.
Thanks for the input, just wanted to make sure my mechanic is being honest with me. I wish I had time to do this stuff myself, it'd be more fulfilling.
