4th gen SFCs on a 3rd gen?

.....LT1 exhaust being a virtual drop-in (just a hanger location issue), so the floor pans aren't shaped differently.

.....driveshafts being a 100% bolt-in item, so the tranny to rear end distance is the same.

.....LT1/T56 or 4L60s being a direct bolt-in, so the tranny mount must be in the location.

.....rear axles are a direct bolt-in, so the rear axle mounts are the same.

Based on all the above.....Why wouldn't 4th gen SFCs be a direct fit?

Same reason front coil over suspension can't be utilized, even though I think the rear subframe may be very similar, the front subframe was changed enough to reflect the two different year SFC packages.

If the front sub frame is the only issue, that sounds like some pretty easy to work around. Most SFCs barely even attach to the front subframe a whole lot anyways, when compared to how they fit the rear subframe/LCA mounts.

I asked this, because I bought a set of Kenny Brown Double Diamonds from a TGO member, who said they were on his Firebird. After getting them, I discover they are for a 4th gen. Either he flat out lied? Or they will fit a 3rd gen after all.

i dont see why they wouldnt fit...i mean alot of suspension parts interchange except when it comes to the front of the car.... that is a good question tho....

Re: 4th gen SFCs on a 3rd gen?

if they were a direct fit, it would have come up before

the rear would mount up the same way, the control arms and rear subframe setup is close enough to work, the tunnel brace is not on the 3rd gen, so those mounting points would have to be fabbed. Probably not a big deal.

the front firewall and trans subframe are totally different, so the front mounts will most likely have to me modified.

you may run into exhaust clearance issues on the passengerside by the cat.

if you have the time, its worth a try. i assume the rear bolts to the lca mount? if so bolt that end on, swing them up and see what happens. IT will give you a good idea of what needs to be done.

and the guy who sold them to you claiming they were on his 3rd gen, lied. didnt happen. Unless they were simply sitting on top of the car, then they were technically "on" the car.

Though the following SFC's are from Spohn, each link shows underbody shots of an 82-92 and an 93-97 car, which might prove useful:

Let us know how it turns out (if you do try to get them to fit). I'm interested in knowing.
