Why didn't all the F-bodies get the "wonder bar"?

I just ordered one of those braces that attach to the bracket that the sway bar attaches to. I also picked one up from the junk yard. Will I notice an improvement in the cars handling?

It may feel a tad tighter, but probably not. I got mine as preventative medicine for the welds cracking around the steering box (IIRC). Some guys swear it makes a difference, I think it may be a bit tighter, but hard to say - let us know what you think once it's in.

I put global west units on both of mine. The Formula used to make some idiot noises when the wheels were turned full lock but now it doesn't. I got a bigger 'Yeah Baby!!!' outta myself when I put on the strut tower brace.
Don't have a STB on the GTA but I know I can go around the corners pretty good with the wonder bar on better than before.

I installed an iroc bar under my sport coupe. It made a big difference with the handling as it seemed to have "tightened" up the front end.

If all f-bodies got one, there wouldn't be anything "wonder"ful about it!

This is a little off topic, but I agree with Brian. I recently installed the Edelbrock strut tower brace. It made a very noticable improvement in the handling on my car.

My question would be why they didnt install a STB from the factory?

It's all about GM watching their bottom line, plus they didn't want the Camaro outhandling their flagship the Corvette.

Umm. Actually the Camaro came with the wonder bar. It was only the Firebirds and Trans Ams that didn't have it.

Just to clear this up for me, is the wonderbar the HUGE front sway bar or is it something else?

Thanks,
Jesse

OldblueZ: It's the part in the middle of this picture (courtesy of globalwest). It bolts up under the front sway bar. Globalwest's prices went up... it's now $46. Was $40.

The wonderbar is not the huge swaybar. But it is located in almost the same spot. Maybe these pictures from an older thread will help clear it up.

....if they work, of course.

88IROCZ, no, not all Camaros got it; just ones with the "performance suspension", like an IROC... believe me, if it was that easy to find one in a junkyard, I'd have a few by now

There is one more "wonder bar" at the junkyard I got mine at. I might head over there and get the swaybar from the IROC's as well, if they don't charge too much for them.
The "wonder bar" is only $25 from the dealer (actually it's $35, but we get a club discount from the pontiac dealer).

If you say it is only $35 at the dealership then why is globalwest $46? What advantages does the aftermarket one have over the OEM one.

It uses the sway bar bushing bolts. Install is as easy as unbolting 4 bolts, slipping the bar into place, and bolting those 4 bolts back in.

I did it today. I only had to remove 4 bolts to get it off my IROC and 4 bolts to put it on my bird. Where are the other 2 bolts that are described in this tech page?

That might be the case, but it wont be when I get my hands on your car! I've got a silver powdercoated wonderbar lined up for it!

Don't forget, it's not just taking off the 4 bolts and putting it back up. It's gotta be done w/ a loaded suspension, which means ramps, although, reamps don't work w/ ground effects. you have to jack up the car and put ramps under it.

I used my ramps to get the bar off my IROC and it has ground effects.
