lowered car different angles?
lowered car different angles?
ok so i was pondering something.
if you add a poly trans mount you must add washers to the cross member so it will have the right angle, right?
ok so if you lower a car, that means lowering the sprung weight, now that would mean lowering of the trans and engine also, now that would lower the trans but not the angle of the rearend, so now the trans has a different angle towards the rear, and this will wear out the Ujoints faster, and maybe cause a vibration at speeds.
please give me some feedback on this, just so i know my mind wasnt rattling off things.
thanks.

Ok, lowering the car WILL alter driveline angles. Changing the tranny mount will also alter the angle(I understand that some of them are taller than others....) Shimming the crossmember is one way to fix this, but, it decrease ground clearance. (speed bumps become more interesting) Getting a tranny mount that is the correct height would be a better plan.
Lowering your car DOES lower the tranny in relation to the rear end, thus, changing the angle, but, your suspension is designed with that in mind, and is less of an issue.
I typed this over the space of an hour or so, (at work....) so, if I am unclear, let me know.
Have fun.

hey man thanks for the feedback. you understand what i was saying!
and why would our suspension be setup for lowering, it cant handle the rear lifted(via AIRSHOCKS)(and no i would never use those), so why would it handle the whole car lowered. it would be a lot of pressure on the vital parts.
anyone else have any idea. what would happen.
and when you buy a poly trans mount, they are all too tall, so you have to shim the cross member, and the shim is only the lenght of a washer, so its no big deal for ground clearance.

The change in driveshaft is small because the torque arm is connected to the tranny. When you drop the car(tranny) the rear-end will tip as well. The driveshaft needs to be at an angle or it will kill the u-joints. The added angle won't hurt them unless it's extreme--you couldn't lower the car that far. I would worry more about the angle of the LCA's after the lowering job. A front alignment wil also need to be done.
You can jack it up with air shocks without hurting anything. Shimming the tranny won't help anything and it will change the angle of the engine.
