What is the General feeling on the 1LE brakes?
What is the General feeling on the 1LE brakes?
I know a lot of people swap to them, but I was wondering how these compare to a baer or brembo set up that would be street worthy. I personaly have not driven a car with better brakes than my TTA's, even an LT4 Corvette, maybey it was because the Vette had ABS though.

I think the reason no one has answered is that people generally go to the 1LEs or Baer/Brembos from the STOCK front brakes. I don't personally know of anyone that has gone from 1LE to Baer/Brembo or vice versa, or even know anyone with both systems on separate cars.
I have 1LE's on my 84. I like them. Are they better than Brembo/Baer? I don't know. Probably not. But they are cheaper.

If money is NO object. Then get the most expensive brakes you can find. But for the rest of us. 1LE is plenty. I know that my 1LE equipped car could not stop any better, with out a healthy increase in my tire budget.

The 1LE brakes are great, and have more than enough stopping power for our non-ABS third-gens, especially with race pads. See what happened when I slammed on the brakes (with race pads) at 115 mph last year:

As far as unsprung weight, I know the aluminum 1LE caliper is quite a bit lighter than the stock iron caliper, so the overall weights are pretty close. Considering that the spindles are lighter (a section of them is cut off), the 1LE's might even be lighter.

Like I said,"if money is no object, then just get only the best". But most of us(including me) simply can't afford it. I would love a set of 6 piston Bremo's w/carbon rotors. But it's that darn $$$ thing again.

the front 1le calipers are a dual piston caliper and the rear is a single psiton, however they are made out of aluminum, and have bigger rotors on the front...

I race a 1LE Camaro with the SCCA and still have the stock 1LE setup. Most of my competetors run a seperate hat/rotor set up or the Baer setup. There is not a big difference in breaking ability. The difference is in weight. The Baer and the sepearate rotor/hat combo weighs roughly 10ibs less per wheel. I run the stock 1LE setup as its half the cost.
wow.. I didn't know the TTA had 1LE!!! kewl... learned a new thang today.
