10 bolt drum to 9 bolt disk swap... brakes ?

I'm swapping a 10 bolt drum rear end to a 9 bolt disk and have a few questions.....

I'm not sure what year this is, just had it delivered from the boneyard today, but the part# is 10054239 3:27:1. How do i tell what brakes i have? Pre or post '89? Size, look, part #?

Do i have to change the master cylinder, just the porportioning valve, or both?

Why is there a brake hose on the right side caliper and not the left. Or is this someone's butchery?

And last but not least, and i know this sounds stupid but, is their such a thing as an adaptor plate to install the drum backing plates to this rear? I like my drum brakes.

Thanks in advance all.

Sorry, can't help with the rear but your not stupid keeping the drums. Mine were great to until the posi went and had to put in a 4th Gen rear with discs. Could really lock those drums up and smoke the tires

The 82-88 disc brakes are smaller, and have the calipers on opposite sides, one front, one rear. The 89-92 disc brakes have both calipers on the rear.

Thanks Kevin, i put the drum brakes from the 10-bolt on the 9-bolt. It's a snap and i don't have to buy all the stuff to convert it to a rear disk.

You have a pre 89 rear end. You will need to swap in a new proportioning valve. Your master cylinder should be OK (fingers crossed). I had to swap m.c. for some reason though. I couldn't get the brake bias correct. But it also had a leak in the rear I was chasing at the same time as well. Good luck with the swap. (Ignore the p.v. swap recommendation if you are sticking with drum brakes). Lon

Re: 10 bolt drum to 9 bolt disk swap... brakes ?

ok, yes, I am bringing this 13 year old thread back, but.....I have a drum brake rear on my 91 Z. I just picked up this 9 bolt 3.27 disc brake rear (p/n 10054239 according to the tag).
I have a few questions:
I keep reading about this rear with the iron calipers and the "PBR" calipers. -Which is better and why?
-It seems that the PBR is better; if that is the case, is this rear worth messing with? Is there enough difference in my drum rear and this one to go through the hassle of rebuilding and installing it or should I find a PBR rear (or do something else?)
*I am looking to improve the exiting brakes for street driving and occasional track and autocross--want to keep stock wheels*
