Steering Pulls me into uneven lanes
Steering Pulls me into uneven lanes
When turning the steering wheel very slightly, I notice no slack in the wheels turning, but when I jacked my car in the air and checked for side to side freeplay I found a small amount of play on the passenger side wheel.
It seemed like it was mostly the tierod end that was moving, but it was just BARELY twitching the other parts it was connected to.
But when I am driving on uneven roads, my car wants to pull me into that lower groove of road aggresively. I have no experience with this steering setup yet as I am used to working on R&P cars.
I asked this question about a month ago and someone told me to replace everything in the front. With 98k miles, and the car not being in that bad of shape I highly doubt EVERYTHING needs to be replaced right away to remove this pull.
I have tested my car taking on/off ramps at about double the rated speed and everything feels GREAT at that point, but that could also be because the slack isn't present while everything is being jammed together at tight turns.
I just mostly have problems keeping the damn car straight half the time and I have asked a friend of mine to watch both of my front wheels while driving to make sure they are not "wobbling" down the road. He said he seen nothing.
Weird.
Think it is the gearbox or how about the passenger outer tie rod?
If I were to replace the entire front steering linkage, I would probably go with

Have you ever taken it to a reputable alignment shop for professional analysis?

Depending on the tread of your tires, tires can sometimes drift on uneven road surfaces.
Re: Steering Pulls me into uneven lanes
The tires have great tread and are newish*. From what I can tell, they do not look uneven with a very careful eye. Kuhmo's on the front, Coopers on the rear.

Re: Steering Pulls me into uneven lanes
My car has the same issue, I asked my dad and he said something about it being the width of the tires and how they pull you into the grooves of the road and everything. Said his car had the same issue and its nothing to worry about, seeing as a track has good quality ground. He still doesn't get that I'm not a big drag racing fan, I'm into drifting. So if you can find a way to circumvent this pull id like to know it too.

Well...without a real analysis of the condition and geometry of the suspension, "Everything" is just about as good an answer as we can get. There are so many things that it could be. The suspension How-To at the top of this forum is pretty awesome. If you have the time and patience to step through everything those guys put together then I'm certain you can track your issue down.
That said, even if you don't pay the shop to do the repairs, I think it'd be worth it to have a reputable shop at least diagnose the suspension and point you in the right direction.

What i should have said was, what type of tread design are your front tires? I have TOYO with a "V" design and they will pull me around on a road with truck tire grooves on it. Mine are 18" with short sidewalls and a wide smooth tire patch on the ground. So tires can also make a difference along with the suspension.

"Kuhmo's on the front, Coopers on the rear."
That could well be your problem right there. Even more so if the tires are larger in the rear.

Hi was wondering if you tried this
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...nsion-how.html
Second post down. I was amazed at how it tightened up the steering.

Doesn't matter how many miles is on a car if you do not know the history of those miles. One bad pothole or curb hit can damage a tierod, pitman arm, etc.
you need to jack the car up and wiggle things to see if any of the pivot or swivel joints have slop.
