Do I need press or any special tools to replace wheel bearing race

I am pretty sure I can knock the old ones out with a chisel. Do I need a driver or press to put in the new races?

I have a list of the things I'm pretty sure I will need/have. (please tell me if I am missing anything):

Wheel bearing grease
Wheel Bearing - Outer - Front Wheel (with cup) x2 assuming cup is the race...
Wheel Bearing - Inner - Front Wheel (with cup) x2
Wheel Seal - Front Wheel x2

Cotter pins
dust caps
Brake cleaner

It's been a few years since I did one, but I don't remember having anything special as far as tools - think I just pryed and cussed with screwdrivers/crowbars/whatever until I got the old bearings out, and just used a block of wood and a hammer to tap them back in.

IIRC, the bearings come with races. I drove the races in with a brass drift.

That oughta get it.

When you grease them, the important thing is to get the entire space inside the "cage" full of grease. You have to fill them up through the edge. Use either the palm of your hand or your finger to work the grease into there. There's an art to it. Work it in ENTIRELY from ONE SIDE ONLY, until it starts coming out the other side. An AMAZING amount of grease will fit; just smearing some on the outside is highly ineffective.

Re: Do I need press or any special tools to replace wheel bearing race

I can not get the race to sit in past the edge. It needs about 2 mm to be completely seated. I actually nicked the top edge of the race very slightly trying to tap it in. not sure if I can even use it now. Someone please respond ASAP because I am stuck.

Update: Tried getting a picture of the race but you really can't see it now matter how many pictures I tried to get of it. Can barely feel it on my nail when I run it across the spot, and it's above the rollers on the bearing so I'm going to try it because I don't really have a choice : \

on the plus side, I did find a method to get the race in .
