4th Gen Axle in a 3rd Gen Camaro

This topic was posted before but I don't know what the outcome was. I was looking at a 4th gen Camaro axle with disc brake setup to put in my RS and was wondering if this axle has the same dimensions and mounting points as the 3rd generation Camaro. Has anyone done this swap? Also, which 4th gen Camaro axle comes with 3.42 gears from the factory if any? Any helpful input is appreciated.

It mounts the same as a 3rd gen. But it it 2" wider per side. But that's OK if you plan to run stock 4th gen wheels or wheels with the correct offset for a fourthgen car. Stock wheels for a thirdgen would stick out too far with that axle.

Aw crap! I was hoping to use the rearend but only for the disc brake setup. The wheels I'm using with the factory axle are even with the fenders as it is and I think the "go-cart" look you see on lowriders is an insult to a Camaro. Would the 4th rear disc brake setup work with my existing axle?

Maybe because I have a Camaro with TBI and was wondering if anyone with a TBI has done this swap.

You cant put stock disc brakes on a stock drum brake rear end. But there are adapter kits, and they're expensive.

A 4th gen rear end is a direct bolt in to a thirdgen, except its 2" wider like was said above. Your wheels may or may not stick out passed the fender. 3.42 rear ends come on all 94+ 6-speed 8 cylinder f-bodies.

I think that if I went with the 4th gen rearend , my tires would stick out because right now they're even with the fender wells as you can see on the pictures in the readers rides section. Thanks for the information.

True they will stick out, but only 1" on each side. Thats not much and it wont look like a Low Rider. It will give your car a differnt stance and one I like. I have seen this done and I think it looks bas *** .

Moved to suspension board because the rear of the RS is the same as every other thirdgen.
