Um, changing my brakes...can anyone help me?

How hard is it exactly to change your brakes yourself? I can easily get at everything...im assuming that the little cap on the tip of the rotor just pops off and I can undo the bolt behind it to remove the whole assembly...what comes after that? How do you re-calibrate them once they are changed (cause I know I wouldn't do it right)

If you're just changing the pads and rotors it's pretty easy. You really should get a Chilton or Haynes manual though for instructions and an idea of what tools are needed. With the book and medium skills it shouldn't ruin more than one afternoon!

Front disk brakes are an excellent starter-type project for a beginner. If all you need is pads (i.e. you are doing them before they have destroyed themselves) then all you need is a long 3/8" high quality Allen wrench, and a jack, and a tire tool. It should take less than 2 hours. Like the other post said, get a Chilton's or some other one of those repair manuals, it will tell you how to do it, and will repay its cost the first time you do a job yourself instead of paying somebody else to do it for you.

No adjustment is necessary after doing those, you just change them out and reassemble the car, and that's it.

Go for it, and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after tackling a job you don't know how to do yet, and mastering it.
