A steering box brace, which was stock on IROCs. They can still be purchased new from GM or, should you wish a beefier version, from Global West.

Supposedly, it is suposed to strengthen that area, so that cracking does not occure around the steering box i beleive.
but i could be wrong, and when you install it, you will notice, a little diffrence in driving, the steering will feel a little tighter, ect.
