OK, I have been reading where 4th gen rear axles fit in the 3rd gen, But are they really just bolt in? I checked at a salvage yard a couple of days ago, & the guy at the counter said that it would not fit without a lot of work.
I am mainly considering the swap to switch over to disk brakes rear from drum, & think that from looking at 4th gen wheels (aftermarket or factory) vs 3rd wheels, I can get wider tires on the rear without sticking out too far. Plus they are 16" instead of 15"

Was I talking to the wrong person, because I was under the impression from the board that it was a simple (sort of) bolt in?

ok, time to clear up some misconceptions. the 4th gen rear will just bolt in. however, if switching to disks you need new e-brake lines and a new propertioning valve, and maybe (something else?). otherwise it bolts right up. It is 2" wider on each side, BUT, 4th gen rims have 2" more backspace then 3rd gen, so the widest tire you can get in there right now will be the widest you can get with the new rearend and new wheels. if you kep the 3rd gen rims, you can fit much wider tires on the back, but they will rub the quarterpanels if you don't have good shocks and springs.
