It depends... can you live with the early style Moraine calipers that will be on the 88 rear, or do you want to upgrade them to the 1989 and later PBR calipers?

89+ disc
Pros: bigger calipers, reliable ebrake
Cons: possible master cylinder/ proportioning valve swap
88- disc
Pros: ummm
Cons: smaller rotor, crappy ebrake
Do you have disc or drum now?

To remove the shifter ****.. unscrew it.. righty tighty, lefty loosey. Check for a set screw but i don't think there is one.

Whether or not you need a new front-to-rear brake line depends on where how your original prop valve matches the donor car's prop valve. I don't think you'll have a problem. (82-84 F-bodies had the front-to-rear line enter the "front" of the prop valve; on all the others I've seen, the front-to-rear line enters the bottom of the prop valve.)
A new prop valve from GM is about $70.

i currently have drum rear brakes. i beleave the '88 discs will be an improvment over the drums and will more than likely upgrade to the larger '89 up unit at a later date.
there is no set screw on the shifter **** and i have tried unscrewing it and am afraid of damaging the shifter the whole thing tries to rotate .... im not used to a top loader trans .... my experience is late '60s early '70s mopars

List to change for 90-92 drum to 89- disc rear:
E-brake cables
E-brake pull-up mechanism
hard brake line (attached to the differntial)
4th brake line (passenger side, goes from caliper to the hard line)
Your Brake Master cylinder (has a "A50" cast on the underside of it) and proportioning valve (made of extruded aluminum) should be OK. I also recommend that you swap out the wheel studs on the axle flanges to longer ones. Just drive them out with a hammer and drive new ones in with a 1/2" drive extension through the spot where the brake caliper sits. You don't have to pull off the axle. I got longer studs at Pep Boys. Good luck, Lon.
