Front end swap
Front end swap
I bought an 89 Iroc conv. that hat been hit in the front on the driver's side. I know I will need to replace some parts. I have access to a couple firebird front ends, but I need to know if the whole subframe will swap out.

The "subframe" on a third gen is part of the chassis and frame now. Unlike the second gens that could be simply unbolted and removed.
You may be refering to the crossmember. It can be unbolted from the frame and removed. Aftermarket tubular crossmembers and lower control arms are available from places like www.paracing.net
All third gen front crossmembers should be interchangable with each other. Depending on how hard the car was hit, the frame could be bent also.

Well, the thing I refer to as the subframe (maybe incorrectly) is surprisingly easy to remove. I pulled one from a junkyard car for no reason other than mine was rusty and the one at the yard wasn't

If the engine is still in the car, you'll need to support it with a bar and chain since you're removing its support structure. But once the motor mounts and tierods are disconnected, there's only something like 6 big bolts and 4 small ones holding the whole thing up! The only thing I had trouble with was the tops of the struts.. we ended up having to torch them out.
