Disc brake resurfacing

I think the inner brake pad on the LF fell off. Just reaching around the back, there's a groove in the disc brake. The disc has to be resurfaced, right? How much does this cost typically? (I want to do the pads myself, because I have lifetime warranty pads.)
Thanx guys.

The rotor does not really have to be resurfaced, but it SHOULD be so that you can maintain even pad wear.

I don't really know what the cost of grinding rotors are, but depending on how old they are and whether or not they were turned before, you may have to buy new ones.

Shouldn't be much more than about $10 each...

Took off the brake pads today, I can't believe the lining on the inner pads were totally GONE! It was just flaking off. As for the rotor, its just the Inner Left one, and it seems as its just a deep scratch, not smooth when you go over it with your finger, as the outer part. I think what might kill me is the labor, but I could probably just take off the rotor and bring it to a shop right? How hard is it to take off a rotor?

Not hard at all. Loosen up the lug nutz, jack up the car, take off the wheel, take off the caliper bolts and reposition the caliper, remove the rotor.

What about cross slotted rotors? If I upgrade to a 1le setup what can I do to maintain them if I can't turn them?

What Pukka said, but to remove the rotor on the front of a 3rd gen you have to take off the grease cup, remove the cotter pin, take off the nut and pull the rotor/wheel bearing casting off. If you wanted the rotor resurfaced I think you should probably leave the bearing races in because they may be used for mounting it true in the machine. If the inner face of the rotor is just scored a little, I wouldn't even worry about it. A lot of shops will resurface rotors as a matter of course, even if they don't really need it, but that just uses them up faster.

shotgun,
You should be able to turn slotted rotors. I have cross-drilled rotors and have had mine turned twice now. It hasn't been a problem.

Also, for anyone running Carbon Metalic pads, you should ALWAYS turn the rotors when installing new pads because the CM pads need a clean, smooth surface to seat to. It's just a good idea in general to turn the rotors each time you install new pads.

Most auto parts stores will turn them for free if you buy the pads from them. Or at the most, charge about $6 per rotor.

The nice thing is that if you ever have a problem with the "Lifetime Warranty" of the pads you bought, you'll have the proof right on the receipt that you had them turned. Most companies won't warranty the brake pads if you didn't have the rotors turned.

Autozone has new rotors for $10 each and work great. Your rotors are probably messed up really bad if you have been driving it that way for any length of time. Not worth trying to save a couple of dollars when new rotors are so cheap.

Are you sure it is the ROTOR that is $10?

This new board is cool!
Dang, which autozone sells the rotors for less than the pads themselves???

Well the pads were replaced, lifetime warranty, and I didn't bother with resurfacing the rotor. Pedal feel is MUCH better now. Do you think I'll have problems in the future because I didn't resurface the rotor?
