The shocks pictured will not fit a third gen. Coil springs are competely separate front and rear.

I would look at a brand that's more mainstream - for warranty purposes. If you are looking for economy, look at Monroe, Gabriel or KYB and just buy them locally from a parts store.

Re: Need help with suspension for a 87 TA

Then you should hold off until you CAN afford the 500.00+ set. If you are going to have the money later for the 500 hp motor which is $$$$, you should have the money for the $$$ shocks and struts.

Not sounding rude here, just making a point since this question is asked so often and the same statements are made time and time again about, "I am planning on putting a such and such motor in this car within the next year...."

Build your suspension, brakes, tires and wheels, transmission, and rearend ALL FIRST before you add power to a car or else you are adding a motor that is way to much for the other stock componants where thnings will either break, not stop, or coause you to end up into a telephone pole or tree, or worse yet another innocent vehicle.

Stock chassis, suspension, and brakes are not designed to handle 500 hp, and you ain't gonna do it on a budget performance build either. The motor is the cheap part- do it last.

I will say that there is quite a bit of car enthusiest out there that would be amazed if they could actually drive a car with a build suspension trans, rearend and brakes with just a stock motor. It is a much more fun car to drive than a car with everything stock and a 500hp motor stuffed into it that you can't use.

I also do't think alot of you know what it is to try to drive a motor with 500 hp, it gets very tiresum and is often not streetable- hope you have another car for a daily driver- there even more $$$$ for a daily driver you better budget.

Agree with Dean here. I have the $$$ Koni shocks and struts on my IROC and love them. For my stock daily driver 91 TA I figured parts store shocks and struts would be OK and I hate them with a passion. I should have spent the money even though the car is just a daily driver. I knew better and still went cheap and I'm regretting it. Don't spend any money on inferior suspension parts ever. Get the best or don't bother.

Those are the right part numbers for KYB AGX suspension for our cars.

The good thing about the AGX is that they're adjustable. And adjustable on the car. The bad thing is that the one **** controls compression and rebound. This makes it harder to dial in the ride exactly where you want it. And the adjustments aren't too linear. So while the **** says 1-9, you actually have less adjustment than that.

The Koni adjustment control just rebound and are linear adjustments (in the front). The rears require you to take the shocks out to re-adjust them. But most people run them on 0 or 1 anyways. So not too much re-adjustment is needed for the rear.

From now until May, Koni is putting on a nice 20% sale. So instead of $800 for a full set, you can get them for $635 shipped. Start saving would be my recommendation.

Best, better, good tends to run Koni, Bilstein, KYB AGX. But with the sale that Koni is having, they're actually cheaper than the Bilsteins anyways. So why not get the Konis?

If you're planning on doing LCA, PHB, subframes, strut mounts etc, than I'd shoot for the best struts/shocks you can. I'm no millionaire. I want a similar setup as you and I'm taking my time doing it.

The AGX are around $430 for a full set vs $630 for a full set of Koni yellow. For something that will be used 100% of the time (racing, having fun on country roads, traffic on city streets) and will be in the car for life, why not go with the best setup you can is my way of thinking.

Thant alone my friend will put a smile on your face when you drive the car. You will feel first hand how well you just spent your money on performance upgrades. Koni's are definately worth it for spirited driving.

The following 10-bolt FAQ may provide info that you'll need at some point:
