What are these? Are they needed? Where can I get new?
I searched and searched, no luck. Best way I can describe these is they look like red seatbelts running vertical from the rear LCA to the frame. The one on the passenger side is ripping.
My rear springs are red, which makes me think the previous owner did an "upgrade" to the rear end.
Anyways, my rear axle is shifted a little to the drivers side, any help to straighten it out would be appreciated.
Pix of the "belts" are attached, thanks Art

Probably just so when you have the load off of the rear end that your rear springs don't move around. I see it having no use otherwise

Mine are factory, so they were used for something, suspension I think..

My 84 has them.
I can only assume that they are there to hold the axle in a semi compressed
position to keep tension on the coil springs so they don't fall out while running
down the assembly line before the tires are mounted and the car is on the
ground.

They are called limiting straps and they keep your car suspension from extending to far...

Check your panhard. If bent, your issue may lie there. You could replace with an OE piece or an adjustable version from Spohn or other after market manufacturers.
An after thought: if your car is lowered, that might not only explain the red springs, the straps, but the off-center position of the rear end (though lowering usually shifts the rear to the pass side).

they keep your axel from articulating too much so you coil doesnt pop out, you usually see them on some older 4x4 trucks. Yeah you might wanna check out you panhard bar, if its lowered you may wanna get an adjustable panhard bar.

It would make more sense to be on the front for drag racing as limiters. But yeah, that cant be factory.

Not just for drag racers. Limiting straps are good for anyone with really short springs. If you jack up the car and have the suspension fully uncompressed (limited by the shock travel), the springs can fall out of the pocket. These will stop that from happening.
They're used occasionally in roadracing too.

You might be able to get new ones here....http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EXP-5162/ ...you just have to measure the size and see if they have them....these are 16" in length
