get a new idler arm form the local parts store.
same place for the motor mounts, or summit jegs, ebay, classicindustries ect.
remove springs, sand off rust, paint.

If you're really going to de-rust your springs, while they're out is the perfect time to do motor mounts. That way you can drop the A-arm and actually have decent access to the motor mount bolts (PITA otherwise, but possible)
Also might just want to get new springs, as your old original ones likely sag by now. Hell, my original springs both had about 2-3" broken off in the lower spring perch, LOL

I 2nd that. Once you have the springs out, best of all replace them, if this was not done before.
Might as well replace the shocks while you're at it.
And give cleaning and painting the A-arms some thought as well.

why would you bother to pull a used, worn out idler arm out to replace a used worn out idler arm? thats just stupid. They are not that expensive new, these are not parts to pull of a junk car, replace them with new parts or dont replace them
Re: Chassis work on 89 chevy camaro rs v8
An idler arm only cost about $20 but you'd be surprised at how new some of the parts are on cars at junkyards and you can get parts at a fraction of the normal cost. Trust me, I've been to plenty of em so I know.
