CANT GET LCA BUSHING SHELLS OUT OF LCA'S

ANYBODY KNOW A TRICK TO R/R LCA BUSHING SHELLS. MINE ARE PRESSED FROM THE OUTSIDE TO THE INSIDE WITH LARGER DIAMETER FLANGE ON THE OUTSIDES OF THE LWR CONTROL ARM. LCA IS TOO BIG TO FIT IN MY ARBOR PRESS. IM GONNA PLAY AROUND WITH A BALLJOINT PRESS CLAMP AD SOME DIFFERENT DIAMETER SPACERS.

Re: CANT GET LCA BUSHING SHELLS OUT OF LCA'S

Generally the shells are rusted in place, and since the arm itself is a stamped U, it's very flimsy.
I had to use a sawzall to cut it into many little pieces and push them out of there. Very difficult with everything seized into place.
When re-installing, you can put a block of something (wood, etc), into the arm around where the new bushing will go, then press it into place.

If these are rears, and you're not racing in a class that requires stock ones, throw them in the trash and just replace them.

For example http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LAK-20140/ is what I have in my car.

If they're the fronts, do as Sonix said; cut them into sections with a hacksaw or Sawzall, and they'll fall right out.

for the cost of what some of the aftermarket tubular pieces go for, its hard to justify fixing the stock pieces unless, as sofakingdom mentioned, you're restricted by race class. i grabbed some founders performance pieces for a heck of a price, worth a look

Re: CANT GET LCA BUSHING SHELLS OUT OF LCA'S

THESE ARE THE FRONTS. THE SHELLS ARE GETTING CUT OUT. EASIER THAN TRYING TO PRESS THEM OUT AND TRASH THE STOCK FRONT LCA'S.
I WENT WITH ADJ REAR LCA'S ( THE CAR IS LOWERED 2" )

oops, yeah, definitely gonna have to cut, that's what we had to do with mine when i added poly bushings. 2 close cuts in each shell should allow you to take out a little chunk of the shell and allow it to be collapsed and pulled out without too much more fighting

Take some measurements to see if your raer axle is now offset to the Driver's side. Most likely it is & you'll want an Adjustable Panhard Bar to bring it back to center.

do you have the rubber out of the bushings and just need to get the outer sleeves out? I've done a few front control arm bushings my method is as follows.

1. burn/melt the rubber out with a torch. use a screwdriver to push the center sleeve and rubber out of the outer sleeve.
2. take a chisel and a hammer and put a crease in the outer sleeve. Basically take a sharp chisel and kink the OD of the bushing in and it will collapse on itself and fall out.

Not a bargain unless all you care about is straight line performance. solid tubular REAR LCAs with poly bushings front and rear are only good for going straight. They do not allow for any rear roll rate. When the car leans around a corner they will bind sending the roll rate to near infinity and make the car snap loose. I learned this the hard way on my IROC.

i understand its not the best of the best for doing road course racing (something i would like to try later on), but it does beat having worn out rubber factory bushings.

if i plan on really pushing things, del sphere would be my choice from what i've gathered from other users. however they are not what i'd consider a budget piece. or did you have something different in mind?

LOL no I didnt have any budget pieces in mind. I'm running the J&M Street/Race Extreme units. Had them on my IROC before the IRS swap then they were on my TA and I like them.

Heim joint ease of motion with street durability and quiet performance. However budget is not a word I'd use to describe them, but I've never seen any worthwhile performance handling pieces that were budget oriented.

Way back when I swapped the 383 in my IROC, I actually opened up the inner sleeve on a stock arm running slicks autocrossing. I got a low mileage set of used 4th gen control arms (with the star shaped bushings) and ran those for a while. If handling is of any concern, I'd run used stockers before I bought a rigid type control arm. just my $.02

HERES THE FIX FOR GETTING THOSE STUBBORN $#@!$#!@# FWD LWR CONTROL ARM BUSHING SHELLS OUT SPORTSFANS. CUT AS SHOWN AND THEY WILL COLLAPSE. BE CAREFUL NOT TO CUT INTO LWR CONTROL ARM. YEAH I KNOW JUST GET NEW TUBULARS BUT NOT IN THE BUDGET THIS YEAR. SO STOCKERS GET URETHANE ALL AROUND.

We have a winner! That's what I usually do. Plus you get to really **** off your neighbors from the black, stinky smoke that taking a torch to the bushings makes...
