Try a TBI brace.

EDL-5227 from Summit.

V8 with TBI (throttle body injection [or carb]). With A/C compressor on passenger side.

Re: carbed car strut tower brace

Anyone ever make their own Strut tower brace? I need one for a carbureted 85 firebird, with the a/c compressor on the driver side. I don't need one that connects to the firewall.
But if anyone knows where I can find one that will fit and clear a 14" aftermarket aircleaner, let me know.

What about welding some steel tubing together (as opposed to bending it)? For example, possibly tearing apart a bike frame? Would that metal be strong enough? i think they are magnesium right(so welding them may not be an option)?

Your questions might be better suited to the Fabrication forum.

Is there one that will work on a carb'd engine with driver's side AC? I don't want to give up my AC, at least yet, and I do want to put a brace on it.

Not that I'm aware of.

You could, of course, swap to a serpentine system, which moves the problem area to the pass side. The above-mentioned STB will then fit like a glove. Pics in my vbGarage (shedlike icon next to my online status) should you care to have a peek.

BTW, without after market strut mounts with spherical bearings, the STB won't be as effective.

Good to know, I appreciate it. Right now the car isn't going to be raced much, but the occassional trip to the local road course for some auto-x would be nice. And simple things like that might help a bit while I decide the direction I want to take.

I have a serp setup I could use, but if I remember right it is still driver's side AC, may have to look for another setup to move it to the other side.
