Sub frame replacement

I am trying to find replacement sub frame components for my car. Restoring it and really need new sub frames or ones that are in good shape from a salvaged vehicle. As of now have had no luck in finding anything. Have contacted Hawkthirdgen and they said to use BMR boxed sub frames but have not been able to locate anything but boxed sub frame connecters not the actual sub frames. Need help with out the sub frame replacement the project is a lost cause, may be a lost cause regardless but would rather try and not succeed then not try at all.

Re: Sub frame replacement

Do you mean a subframe or a front k-member?

The subframes in a third gen are not easily replaced. Unlike a first or second gen where they are bolted to the body, a third gen subframe is part of the body. Third gens are a unibody. If a subframe is damaged then the car was in an accident and needs to be straightened on an alignment rack. If the subframe is rotten then the body is typically scrap because the cost to repair can become much higher than what the car is worth.

If it's just the k-member then it's simply bolted to the subframe. Factory ones are not going to be found except from a junkyard but there are many aftermarket tubular replacements.

Re: Sub frame replacement

Thanks 6SIX6 that looks like a front subframe piece. My front subframes are still in good condition, what I am really needing are rear subframe pieces. I am hoping to be able to restore the car, for sentimental reasons not to increase or sell it.

Re: Sub frame replacement

If your car is that bad I'd find a roller chassis and go from there. These cars are hard to "get square" once rot creeps in. It's a lot of money and work for a suboptimal outcome.

Buy another car if you need to be replacing subframes. Strip everything you want off the car you have now for parts and go search for a roller or a good running car. Replacing the subframe while it can be done isn't gonna be the easiest job and you probably don't want to be opening up that can of worms regardless
