Whats the difference between 82 and 88 front coils

I have an 88 base model camaro that came with a 2.8 and 15 inch wheels, im using the shell from an 82 berlinetta to rebuild it since the frame and floor are rotted beyond repair. i put brand new front coils on the 88 just before i parked it and now that im doing the swap i was gonna use the springs in the 82 but whenever i look up compatibility it says the springs arent interchangeable. i know the 82 originally came with 14 inch wheels, im just wondering if thats why its saying it takes different springs and will i need the springs like the 88 takes in order to put 15 inch wheels on the 82 body. anyone who can shed like on this for me, your help would be greatly apreciated

Re: Whats the difference between 82 and 88 front coils

The springs are definitely "interchangeable"; however, stock, they were not the same part #.

By 88 the driving tastes of the public had changed SUBSTANTIALLY and stiffer springs were EXPECTED.

Other than that, they're still old wore-out sagging stock springs that have who knows how many miles and instances of bending back and forth on them. No sense whatsoever in taking out one set of that, and putting in another, as CHEEEEEEEEEP as springs are.

Get the Moog 5662 or 5664 for the front, and 5665 or CC635 on the rear. I have the 5664/CC635 combo in mine and like it; others have used the other #s and like it just as well.

Wheel dia has nothing to do with it, really.

Re: Whats the difference between 82 and 88 front coils

thanks for the help, the only reason i was considering using the springs from the one was because i probly only put about a hundred miles on the car after i changed them but like you said theyre cheap enough and ill probly just go with the new ones. thanks
